ASST DIRECTOR - AI STRATEGY & DIGITAL AUTOMATION

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director - AI Strategy and Digital Automation is to be at the forefront of exploring emerging technologies and developing solutions that enhance our services, improve customer experience, and drive measurable business value. This role is a senior technical leadership role responsible for leading the AI and Digital Automation function across the organization.

 

The Assistant Director owns the identification, design, delivery, and ongoing optimization of AI-powered and automated digital solutions, providing strategic direction, managing technical resources, and ensuring solutions deliver tangible operational and financial outcomes. Partnering closely with executive leadership, department heads, cyber security, and IT teams, the role translates business needs into scalable, secure, production-ready capabilities. Designed as a builder-leader position, the role is intentionally weighted toward hands-on technical delivery (approximately 70%) while maintaining people leadership accountability (approximately 30%) for team performance and execution of priority initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

This individual must balance big picture strategy with hands on execution, rapidly translating ideas into production solutions that deliver measurable ROI. They are never satisfied with the status quo and thrive in a fast paced, customer centric, and ever-changing environment. This position directly supervises two or more Team Members with the authority to effectively recommend hiring, promotion, and termination decisions. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and Nevada state law.  It is paid on a salary basis and is not eligible for overtime.

 

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The AI and Digital Automation team while spending approximately 70% of time on hands-on technical delivery for complex or high-impact initiatives and 30% on people leadership, with accountability for both team performance and individual technical execution.
  • Govern the AI engineering methodology and AgentOps framework used across the AI and Digital Automation program. Define the tool chain for developing, testing, deploying, monitoring, and continuously improving autonomous AI agents. Lead the evolution from traditional automation toward advanced, agent-based workflows.
  • Provide architectural leadership for individual AI and automation solutions, overseeing design reviews and approving solution-level architectures throughout the delivery lifecycle. Ensure consistent alignment with AgentOps standards while addressing solution-specific requirements.
  • Oversee engineering execution across AI and automation initiatives, ensuring technical builds align with the strategic roadmap. Direct allocation of engineering resources, resolve cross-team dependencies, and remove technical impediments that impact delivery quality or velocity.
  • Establish and enforce frameworks for AI safety, including evaluation protocols to track accuracy and minimize hallucinations, as well as security best practices such as PII redaction and prompt injection prevention.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging AI and automation technologies and provide recommendations to senior leadership on future capabilities and investments.
  • Mentor engineers on modern AI patterns, agent design, and production best practices, raising the technical bar across the team.
  • Own Agile delivery ceremonies across the AI and Digital Automation program, including sprint planning and daily standups. Provide executive leadership with clear visibility into progress, outcomes, and realized business value by translating technical milestones into strategic results and ROI.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary interface for department heads to discover and vet solution opportunities, maintaining a prioritized backlog that aligns business needs with technical delivery.
  • Lead the elicitation and formal documentation of functional requirements and process maps (As-Is/To-Be); translate business needs into actionable technical specifications for the engineering team.
  • Coordinate release schedules and oversee User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet business requirements before deployment.
  • Establish performance monitoring protocols for live agents/bots, manage support escalations and SLAs, and prioritize the backlog for continuous optimization and maintenance.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline (or foreign equivalent), or equivalent practical experience delivering complex, enterprise-scale technology solutions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Nevada Gaming Control Board registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and scaling an enterprise AI and digital automation program, including establishing engineering standards, operating models, governance frameworks, and delivery processes across multiple business functions.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating AI agent solutions on cloud platforms, with direct experience in the Google Cloud AI ecosystem preferred.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating autonomous or semi-autonomous AI agents in production, including agent orchestration, tool integration, and workflow execution.
  • Proficiency with LLM based systems, including prompt design, structured output enforcement, context management, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and knowledge retrieval, and evaluation of agent performance and accuracy.
  • Experience implementing DevOps practices for AI agents, including versioning, testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement in live enterprise environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong software engineering experience supporting agent-based systems, including API-driven integrations, service-oriented architectures, error handling, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI safety, security, and governance controls, including evaluation frameworks to reduce hallucinations, PII handling, access controls, and prompt injection mitigation.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating modern AI-enabled software architectures, including API-based integrations, microservices, cloud-native platforms, and enterprise integration patterns supporting scalable, secure, production AI agents.
  • Proven ability to provide architectural leadership for AI-driven solutions, including leading technical design reviews and ensuring alignment with enterprise engineering standards.
  • Experience leading Agile technical delivery for AI or automation initiatives, including backlog prioritization, sprint execution, dependency management, and translation of technical progress into measurable business outcomes.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python for AI development, with the ability to perform code reviews, architectural validation, and complex debugging.
  • Ability to influence, engage, and build relationships with senior management across all business lines and functions.
