ASST SHIFT MANAGER - SECURITY

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Assistant Shift Manager – Security is to manage the daily security operation of an assigned shift.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. This is a safety–related position.       

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring consistent enforcement of property policies,  rules, and regulations as well as Security Department procedures.
  • Oversees the daily operation of  their assigned shift.
  • Determines daily staffing needs; organizes and coordinates personnel, equipment and resources.
  • Assigns Officers fresh out of the New Officer Academy to a Field Training Officer (FTO) to complete their field training.
  • Assigns New Officers (Shadows) to a veteran Officer for the day to observe the daily duties of a Security Officer.
  • Supervises or conducts investigations of criminal activity, team member conduct, interview suspects, victims and witnesses. Directly supervises all arrests and detentions.
  • Communicates with officers prior to the beginning of the shift to announce policy and procedure changes, pertinent information from previous shifts, upcoming special events, and job-related information.
  • Ensures safety practices are followed, reports observed hazards and oversees or conducts investigations of guest and job-related accidents.
  • Inspects personnel, facilities and equipment; corrects irregularities and issues necessary security equipment to officers to assure completion of security duties and assignments.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Communicates regularly with the Shift Manager about changes and concerns within their assigned shift.
  • Counsels and disciplines assigned Security Officers on sub-standard performance.
  • Review all reports compiled on the shift for factual, readable, thorough, and timely information and ensures follow-ups for reports needing further investigation.
  • During emergencies, responds to the assigned Emergency Operations Center (EOC) assumes duties as the Incident Commander (IC) or the Deputy Incident Commander (DIC).
  • Maintains a highly visible profile, monitoring Security Officers in the field performing their assignments and activities and frequently patrolling and inspecting hotel facilities.
  • Handles hotel and guest complaints and disputes, notifying appropriate manager and conducting further investigations as needed.
  • Safety is an essential function of this job.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • High school diploma.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Driver's License, Alcohol Awareness (TAM) card Nevada Gaming Control Board registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 
  • 3+ years of experience in security, and in a supervisory/managerial role in a similar resort setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in civilian or military law enforcement, casino/hotel security, or industrial security.
  • Working knowledge of general first aid and CPR.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Lift or carry 46 pounds, unassisted, in the performance of specific tasks, as assigned.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
