MANAGER - DATA SCIENCE

Position Overview:

The Manger - Data Science is responsible for applying a robust understanding of statistics, machine learning, probabilistic thinking, and economic theory within a business setting to discover the underlying business demand drivers and transform data into actionable insights that generate incremental EBITDA and improve the company’s operations. This person will lead and manage the Data Science team, mentor, and support the professional growth of the team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

The candidate must demonstrate extensive hands-on experience with machine learning, statistics, and analytics.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and drive our data science analytics initiatives, leveraging AI/ML, clustering, and regression modeling techniques to deliver high-impact, actionable insights.
  • Manage and lead data science team to proactively address complex business challenges using machine learning techniques and innovate creative solutions.
  • Build scalable demand forecasting models to optimize productivity and labor with the goal of delivering excellent customer experience while balancing operating cost and asset efficiency.
  • Design, develop, and implement predictive models and algorithms to support business objectives.
  • Create new input features and build end to end data pipelines for machine learning models.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis, descriptive analysis, and deep dives, and examine large datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities for business improvement.
  • Employ a deep command of data science modeling techniques and statistics, leveraging a variety of technologies, programming languages, and cloud computing platforms.
  • Apply expertise in model design, training, evaluation, validation, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Monitor performance of existing suite of machine learning and statistical models and refit, as necessary.
  • Present data and analysis in a clear and concise manner allowing the audience to quickly understand the results and recommendations and make optimal decisions.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to identify opportunities, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns.

  • Collaborate with domain experts to identify model enhancement opportunities and stress test models.
  • Research the latest machine learning technologies and keep up with industry best practices in Data Science.
  • Responsible for the on-time delivery of projects, through creating a framework of accountability, and continuously optimizing your team’s performance by promoting a culture of excellence, where best practices and industry standards are the norm.
  • Coach, mentor, and further grow and develop your team.
  • Manage responsibilities for assigned deliverables creating a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect, and employee satisfaction as well as hiring, termination, training, and succession planning processes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization to work in the United States
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, data science, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

 

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Nevada Gaming Control Board registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2 or more years with data-science individual contributor role.
  • Hands-on experience building ML and predictive models required.
  • Demonstrated experience in statistical and/or quantitative analysis, forecasting, predictive analytics, multivariate testing, outlier analysis and/or optimization algorithms.
  • Extensive experience with SQL and Python.
  • Experience with BigQuery a plus.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform and Databricks a plus.
  • Experience of working on a cloud-based ML platform a plus.
  • Experience in hospitality and/or gaming industry a plus.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of originality and creativity when developing solutions to improve existing business processes utilizing methods such as statistical analysis, regression modeling, and optimization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sharp analytical, technical, and mathematical / statistical skills.
  • Ability to communicate with people of various technical and business backgrounds, includes explaining difficult technical concepts in simple terms to business users.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical skill, aptitude for working with data, and creativity at finding new solutions to modeling problems.
  • Strong background and knowledge in data analytics and statistical modeling, including linear regression and time series modeling.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated abilities to lead and positively influence teams, develop talent, and lead by example.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
