SPECIALIST - BENEFITS

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Specialist - Benefits is the administration of the Venetian Benefit Plans, including but not limited to benefit issues related to eligibility and compliance. The Specialist will assume responsibility for certain audits, billing and collection of benefit premiums not collected through payroll deductions, as well as processing and responding to life and disability matters, Medicare forms and legal document requests.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits a strong working knowledge of self-funded medical, dental, and vision plans, EAP Service Offerings, fully-insured HMO and Dental DMO programs, Life/AD&D insurance, Short and Long-term Disability, Accident and Critical Illness benefits, Pre-paid Legal, 401(k), HIPAA, and stays up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and market trends.
  • To thrive in this position, the successful candidate must be adaptable, analytical, detail oriented, self-driven and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. They must have a way with Team Members that builds rapport, establishes trust, and shines with professionalism. Over the phone, in-person, and in writing, communication must be clear and easy for our Team Members to understand and act on.
  • Aptitude to grasp new concepts or tools by actively learning.
  • Analyzes, researches and collects voluntary benefit premium not systematically collected through payroll deductions.  
  • Assist with review and identified updates related to 401(k) eligibility and enrollment.
  • Runs routine reports, consolidates and analyzes benefits data, and maintains employee benefit records.
  • Research complex benefit issues across multiple databases to identify and resolve escalated Team Member and billing/premium payment issues. 
  • Routinely performs back-office audits, quality checks, reconciliations and other processes that govern the regular deliverables such as benefit eligibility, vendor invoices, QA, transaction processing, etc.
  • Proactively works to identify problems and offer solutions to improve the internal operation and administration of the plans. Takes a proactive approach to suggest systematic processes and procedures that will reduce or eliminate errors.
  • Assess, evaluates and reviews data for organizing projects and/or providing direction on activities, tasks or processes in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Arranges timelines to complete tasks and department assignments or projects, meeting or exceeding the deadlines related to those assignments.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responds to benefit inquiries about eligibility, enrollment and billing.
  • Provides team member customer service consistent with the Company’s core service standards and brand attributes, addressing all team member issues and questions, in a timely and professional manner.
  • From time to time may conduct open enrollment and other benefit-related presentations related to benefits in addition to assisting to create benefit communications.
  • Maintains knowledge of federal and state laws related to employee benefits, and ensures compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of benefit-related policies and procedures.
  • Maintains an understanding of all company benefit programs and provisions.
  • Safety is an essential function of this job.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Assists with special projects, and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 
  • 2-3 years of experience in benefits administration, health and welfare plans, short- and long-term disability coverage, and life insurance preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Microsoft Office, Word,,and data management skills preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits laws, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge in UKG preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience a must.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Lift or carry 20 pounds, unassisted, in the performance of specific tasks, as assigned.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
